This tote can be made from a cutter quilt, newly pieced and quilted piece or double-sided pre-quilted fabric. The back of your quilt or double-sided pre-quilted fabric will become the inside of the bag so no lining is needed. An empty cardboard fabric bolt makes a sturdy bottom insert and can be used for an ironing board. It can also be used to hold your 24” ruler safely.
Quilter’s Large Tote Supply List
Finished size: 24” x 10” x 20”
Project requirements:
- Make a small quilt of your own design 36” x 54”. Have it quilted before class, but do not bind. OR Cutter quilt at least 36” x 54” of good condition OR 1-1/2 yards of pre-quilted fabric.
( Note: sample was made using two thicknesses of warm and natural batting to give it more stability. One thickness works okay, too, but is more flimsy. )
- Plus 1-1/2 yard coordinating fabric for bias binding and optional inner pocket and to cover fabric bolt
- (2) ¾” x 23” wooden dowels
- (1) cardboard fabric bolt (wide backing fabric bolt is needed if you are going to use it to hold your 24” ruler)
Bring to class:
- Quilted piece to use for main part of bag and additional fabrics as noted above
- Machine with sharp needle, at least an 80/12 (don’t forget your cord and foot pedal)
- Usual sewing equipment plus rotary cutting tools including a 24” ruler and 12 ½ “ square
- Binding clips are helpful
