The Raffle Quilt Committee organizes the making of the annual Guild Raffle Quilt. The purpose of the quilt raffle is to fund the educational objective of our organization; supporting classes by hiring instructors, both local and nationally known, purchasing books for our lending library, and awarding grants to certified Alaskan teachers wishing to teach a unit on the fiber arts and who meet the requirements of the Grant.
The Committee chooses the pattern for the quilt, obtains permission from the designer (or publishing company) to use the pattern, purchases the necessary supplies, makes kits for Guild members to assemble, assembles the quilt, finds a longarm quilter to do the quilting, and binds and labels the completed quilt.
The completed quilt is then passed to the Gaming Committee to promote and arrange for the sale of the raffle tickets. The drawing for the Raffle Quilt is held the last day of the Alaska State Fair at the Palmer Fairgrounds. The winner does not need to be present to win the quilt.
This Committee does most of its work in a very short time frame, usually January through April of each year.
